The International Youth Library
In 2002, 826 Valencia opened with a mission to serve school-aged students with writing and tutoring programs and a commitment to publish their work with elegant design and up to professional standards. In the time since, all over the world, over 70 nonprofit youth writing centers – based on the spirit and vision of the original 826 Valencia in San Francisco – have opened, from Dublin to Melbourne.
Over two decades, these dozens of organizations have published thousands of books – short story anthologies, essay collections, novels, cookbooks, comic books, newspapers and myriad other publications.
Now through the end of 2024, the gallery at 849 Valencia Street in San Francisco is displaying a small sampling of the tremendous body of work created by these young writers. The gallery has been outfitted with comfortable chairs and couches and pillows, so come in and feast on the words of our brightest young minds.
