Calling for volunteers!

Volunteers needed: This Saturday and Sunday (October 20th and 21st) at 826 Valencia is Personal Statement Weekend, one of the most impactful and inspiring weekends you could ever spend. About 150 high school seniors come to Mission High School in San Francisco, and they’re matched with adult volunteers to work on their college essays. It will floor you how much gets done. On average, the student-adult work session lasts around 3 hours, and it’s astounding how much progress can be made in that time, when two people are working side by side and with no distractions. By the way, there is probably no playing field less level than that of the college-essay game. If you’re the first in your family to go to college in California, and if you attend a public high school, getting 3 hours of undivided attention— or more, given students can come two days straight and work up to 10 hours with one tutor! — from a dedicated adult… Well, this is exceedingly rare. Be part of it. Check out the 826 Valencia website for more info.
